Q. What is 'SpywareWarrior RSAPWS detection list'?
A. This is the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites list, developed and maintained by Eric Howes to inform and warn internet users, of the products they would be best avoiding. This list is recommended by virtually all of the "techies" I know, including myself, as a "must bookmark" webpage for the less tech-inclined (put simply, if you are thinking about trying an application and it is listed in Eric's RSAPWS lists, stay away from it).

Q. Why is PUI flagging KC Softwares VideoInspector as unsafe?
A. This is a false positive/error in the PUI comparision coding and is currently under investigation (neither KC Softwares nor VideoInspector are listed in the PUI unsafe items list).

Q. PUI tells me WinPatrol is not running when it is?
A. This is a known issue with an unknown cause (it seems to occur on some systems but not on others). I am currently in contact with BillP Studios to see whether or not we can find the cause. To get rid of the notice, simply tick the box when it appears.

Q. Can you tell me what is and is not detected by PUI?
A. To find out what is an is not detected, whilst running PUI, open up puilst.txt (stored in the same folder as PUI). Note: this no longer applies for 1.1.7 and above as this feature has been removed

Q. PUI detected an application as potentially unsafe, what should I do?
A. Firstly, do not panic. PUI has been coded to detect potentially unsafe items using either the programs name (e.g. SpyHunter), or it's developer (e.g. Direct Revenue). Should an item such as this be found on your computer, your first priority prior to it's removal should be to research the item using either a search engine such as Exalead and/or checking the Spyware Warrior Rogue/Suspect Anti-spyware page. If you are still unsure as to whether or not an item should be removed, please feel free to contact us (if doing so, please let us know the programs name and version (Keyboard shortcut: CTRL+C)).

Q. Which of the available packages should I download?
A. If you are using Windows 2000 or below and DO NOT have the VB6 runtime files installed, you will need to either install the VB6 runtime files seperately, or download the Full Install package. Those using Windows 2000 or below that already have the VB6 runtime files, or those using Windows XP and above, may download the Basic Install or No Install package. Note: you can verify whether or not the VB6 runtime files are present by checking the MSVBVM60.dll file is present on your system (if this file is missing, you will need to install the VB6 runtime files). Please also note, you must additionally verify the following files are also present on your computer if you are using the Basic or No install packages; 1. COMDLG32.OCX 2. MSCOMCTL.OCX

Q. Which antispyware and antivirus do you recommend?
A. My personal favourites as far as antivirus/anti-malware are concerned are (in no particular order); 1. NOD32 - www.eset.com 2. F-Prot - www.f-prot.com 3. Ewido - www.ewido.com 4. Avast - www.avast.com As far as anti-spyware applications are concerned, my personal favourite is Spybot Search & Destroy. However, it should be noted that you should NEVER rely on one application (this also applies to antivirus applications and the like). A more comprehensive list of anti-spyware applications, including reviews and detailed information on each, can be found at Spyware Warrior; http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy

Q. Why can't I delete an entry?
A. Deleting an entry is not advisable unless the program has already been uninstalled, in which case, it is normally best to run a registry cleaner such as RegCleaner instead, as this will remove all invalid references in your registry. Note: A delete option has been added to version 1.0.3 for those that wish to have such option
